The site and the problem

The open grassed backyard offered space for entertaining but lacked a covered structure. The owner wanted a bright, spacious setting while keeping the roof specification within the project budget.

What the client needed

  • Create a sheltered backyard living area.
  • Retain daylight and a sense of height.
  • Balance the roof material choice with the budget.

Design and installation approach

The gable roof raises the centre of the space and gives the structure a distinct pitched outline. The black aluminium frame defines the new extension against the backyard.

The project used single-layer polycarbonate rather than double-glazed glass roofing. That is a material choice for this installation; it should not be read as equivalent thermal performance between the two systems.

The result

The completed structure provides a bright covered area with a higher central roof line. It creates space for everyday outdoor living and entertaining beside the home.
