Project location: Cranbourne, VIC 3977
Project type: Custom aluminium patio and pergola renovation
Project size: Custom-built to suit the existing backyard footprint
This residential project in Cranbourne transformed an underused backyard edge into a sheltered outdoor living area. The design combines a powder-coated aluminium structure, insulated roof panels, corrugated privacy cladding and low-maintenance composite decking. It creates a practical transition between the home and garden while responding to Melbourne’s changeable weather.

Project Background
The homeowners wanted to make better use of the outdoor area beside the house. The original space did not provide enough overhead protection or privacy for regular family use. Rather than create a visually heavy extension, the brief called for a clean structure that complemented the light exterior of the home and preserved an open outlook to the garden.
Client Requirements
- Create a sheltered outdoor zone for relaxing and entertaining
- Improve protection from cold winds and reduce exposure to changing weather
- Provide a level, low-maintenance floor suitable for outdoor furniture
- Add privacy without blocking the surrounding outlook
- Match the colour and proportions of the existing residence
Materials and Specifications
- Powder-coated solid aluminium support posts and beams
- Insulated roof panels with polyurethane core for improved thermal performance
- Corrugated metal lower wall panels for privacy and wind protection
- Composite timber decking for a durable, low-maintenance finish
- Custom fabrication and professional installation to suit the existing site

Our Custom Solution
Furite Outdoor Living designed the patio around the available backyard footprint. The aluminium framework provides a rust-resistant structural system, while the insulated roof helps limit direct summer heat and reduces heat loss from the sheltered area during colder months. Corrugated lower wall panels shield the most exposed sides and add privacy, with the upper openings retaining natural light and views.
The composite deck creates a warm, even surface and connects the new patio with the existing access around the home. Each component was coordinated in a light colour palette so the addition feels integrated with the residence rather than attached as an afterthought.

Completed Result
The finished Cranbourne patio provides a defined outdoor living zone for family gatherings, dining and everyday relaxation. Its insulated roof, aluminium frame and partial privacy enclosure offer improved comfort and protection while maintaining an open connection with the backyard. The corrosion-resistant structure and composite decking also minimise ongoing maintenance.
