The site and the problem
The uncovered deck was exposed to sun, wind and rain. The owner wanted to use it more often without rebuilding the whole backyard, and wanted the new structure to match the dark exterior.
What the client needed
- Keep the existing deck where practical.
- Add roof cover and flexible privacy.
- Coordinate a black frame with the home.
Design and installation approach
The wall-attached roof sits over the existing deck. Twin-wall polycarbonate covers the main outdoor area, with black framing that relates to the home’s exterior.
Separate blinds around the perimeter allow different sides to be opened or screened. This provides more control over privacy and exposure; it does not turn the deck into a sealed room or establish an unrestricted wind rating.
The result
The deck retains its original role as an outdoor space, with added roof cover and adjustable grey screening. Raising the blinds restores the open garden outlook.
