Berwick / Aluminium Pergola & Backyard Decking

A damp, muddy backyard in Berwick became a raised alfresco deck with an aluminium pergola. The renovation addressed both the ground surface and the lack of overhead cover beside the home.

Project at a glance

Location Berwick, Melbourne
Frame Powder-coated aluminium
Roof Translucent panels
Floor Timber-look decking with steps
Layout Wall-connected roof with open sides

The site and the problem

Exposed soil and a wet concrete area made the backyard difficult to use after rain. Without a roof or an even floor, there was little practical space for outdoor furniture and family gatherings.

What the client needed

  • Create a clean, level entertaining surface.
  • Connect the house, deck and garden access.
  • Add rain cover while retaining daylight.

Design and installation approach

The raised deck establishes a level surface above the previously muddy ground. Its footprint, steps and edges follow the available backyard space and access route.

An aluminium roof frame covers the main entertaining zone. Translucent panels admit light, while the roof layout and rainwater management address overhead runoff. The sides remain open.

The result

The renovation provides a defined dining and relaxation area with a more practical transition from the house to the backyard. Overhead cover improves its usefulness in changing weather, although wind-driven rain can still enter at the sides.
