This Mentone home had a generous backyard beside the main living area, but the open lawn offered no reliable protection from Melbourne sun, wind or rain. The homeowners wanted to turn the underused 5m × 5.5m footprint into a bright, practical extension connected closely to the house and garden.

Our Solution

Furite Outdoor Living designed a custom enclosure around the exact backyard footprint. The dark aluminium grid aligns visually with the existing house trim, while the transparent roof and wall panels keep the new room open and bright. A raised timber platform creates a usable level floor and reduces the need for extensive excavation across the garden.

The framed wall layout was planned around access, ventilation, structural support and outward views. The result is a sheltered transition between the indoor living space and the backyard rather than a disconnected outbuilding.
