The site and the problem
The outdoor kitchen sat beneath a bare frame, leaving the bench and equipment exposed to rain and splashback. The owner wanted shelter without losing daylight above the cooking area.
What the client needed
- Cover the outdoor kitchen.
- Direct collected roof water forwards.
- Retain a light-transmitting roof.
Design and installation approach
The roof design raises the rear by 150mm to establish a forward drainage gradient. A 250mm front drainage allowance is recorded in the project details.
Solid polycarbonate panels span the aluminium framework. The drawing dimensions explain this project’s layout; another kitchen would need its own measurements and drainage design.
The result
The cooking area has overhead cover while daylight passes through the panels. The roof fall addresses collected runoff, although an open-sided cover does not exclude all wind-driven rain or splash.

Questions about this project
Why was the rear of the roof raised?
The 150mm change creates a forward fall so collected water moves towards the front drainage arrangement.
Are the dimensions a standard kit size?
No. They describe the supplied drawing for this Rowville installation.
