Project Background
This Templestowe home had a large timber deck wrapping around a building corner, but the area had no reliable overhead protection. Strong summer sun heated the deck, seasonal rain wet the timber surface, and windy weather limited outdoor use. The homeowners wanted dependable cover without closing in the garden outlook or changing the character of the house.

- Provide controlled drainage without water pooling at the inside corner.

Custom Corner Solution
After measuring the deck and roof junctions, Furite designed a black aluminium structure that follows both sides of the building corner. The post positions preserve circulation and garden views, while the roof fall and integrated gutters guide rainwater away from the internal corner. Clear polycarbonate panels retain daylight while helping protect the deck from UV exposure, rain and hail impact.
The lightweight aluminium and polycarbonate system reduced the need for heavy structural changes and complements the home’s existing dark window and roof details.
Completed Result
The completed cover protects the timber deck throughout changing Melbourne conditions and creates a practical space for afternoon tea, outdoor dining and family gatherings. The transparent roof maintains an open courtyard feel, while the integrated corner layout provides continuous coverage and helps extend the life of the timber flooring.
